The moment you talk to MFO you know you are in for a fantastic experience that you won’t forget. The guides are exceptional; they know their stuff, plus a heck of a lot of fun. Dad and I have been fishing with them for three years in a row and we are going back next year. Warning: you may run out of language to describe your experience with the folks at MFO. Outstanding!

This was my first time in Montana, and I will be back! Upon emailing MFO about a possible June trip, Pat and Garrett quickly responded with options. Ultimately because of my intended destination, I worked directly with Pat. He was professional, prompt, accommodating, and friendly. He planned a mid- June walk and wade trip for my brother, my dad, and me. We arrived at the wonderfully stocked fly shop, met our guide, and spent the day catching big trout! Trey Braasch knows the Madison, but he also knows how to guide/teach (and not to mention prepare an awesome lunch) too. He is clear, concise, and patient. My brother was new to fly fishing, and he caught so many trout, he lost count. Not only did we catch big trout all day, but we learned skills we will use regardless of where we fish. Thanks to Trey and Pat for a truly memorable experience!

Our first fly fishing experience on the Missouri river out of Helena was amazing and truly the trip of a lifetime!!. After about an hour with our guide, Tanner D., my 13 year old grandson was casting like a pro. Our guide had amazing knowledge of the river, pointing out wildlife and fishing "hot spots" as well. His patient teaching skills perfectly tuned in to my young teen, assuring success, making it a memorable time, one he can't wait to do again.
Montana Fishing Outfitters provided door to door transportation from the B & B, gear, snacks, the boat and even some warm clothing. Not to mention instruction, they thought of everything.
We'd do it again in a heart beat and can't wait to go back. MFO is the place to go for sure!!
I can't thank you all enough....

Had 4 days with these lads. Two of which on the Missouri River and two on the Yellowstone. Pat arranged an awesome itinerary for me which included top class accommodation for the trip which was of good value and in great locations being right on the Missouri River and in the heart of Livingston. Secondly Garret and Pat were brilliant guides who had patience, great knowledge and plenty of encouragement as I have never fly fished before. Lastly I caught a lot of fish over the 4 days. both Garret and Pat knew the spots where the fish were and I landed several brown and rainbow trout over 20 inches! The other good thing was that both rivers had lovely scenery which made the week so memorable. The lunches which were included on the trip were delicious as well! I am definitely coming back next year for another week with these guys!

I fished with both of MFO's owner/ guides. Pat Straub and Garrett Munson are great teachers and fishing companions. They know Montana Flyfishing. I have floated with them on the Missouri, the Blackfoot, the Yellowstone and the Madison. I have wade fished a number of areas in YNP as well as private ranches. These guys know the water, and they know how to catch fish. They are "travel savvy" and they helped me with every part of my trip. They can teach almost anyone to sight fish to big feeding trout.

This was our first fly fishing trip, and in summary it was simply amazing! We had such a wonderful time and our guide was fantastic. We spent three days on the river, one on the Yellowstone and two on the Madison and caught probably 80 - 90 fish in those three days. This was the first time fly fishing for both myself and my husband (this trip was his birthday present), our guide, Steve, made the trip! He was on top of everything, explaining the basics, making sure we had the best fly's rigged up for the most action, navigated the boat perfectly, taught us how to spot drop offs in the water for the best spot to catch the fish, etc. Steve definitely took the trip from good to great - he was very experienced and knew the river like the back of his hand, and set us up for success. The area was beautiful, I had to remind myself every so often to look up from the water and take in the scenery too. We will definitely be going back and probably make this an every other year vacation.

My girlfriend and I visited Montana last summer and wanted to do some fly fishing. I can't say enough about Garrett and MFO. I think we were so lucky to fish with him. He was easy to contact and accommodating when booking our trip. On the river he was very friendly and knowledgeable. He put us on fish after fish until my girlfriend got exhausted from reeling them in. At some point another angler on the river yelled out "Everybody's asking what Lindsey's using". Needless to say Liz and I are novices at best, however Garrett gave us some good tips to better our casting such that by the end of the day I felt that my fly fishing skills have improved significantly. Above all we had a lot of fun. Garrett is the best guide I have ever worked with fishing or not and I can't wait to go back and try some other trips with him.

Pat Straub certainly knows how to listen to the sound of the river. More importantly, he loves to teach you how to do the same. The fishing was tough, the weather great, and the scenery breathtaking. Pat wove these elements into an unforgettable memory. We caught lots of fish not just because of Pat's knowledge and experience, but because he never gives up. He loves what he does and shares it freely. We savor the memory and look forward to the next day on the water with Pat.
